As a friend of UCLA, you know that UCLA is a powerhouse of academic excellence
and public service. But unlike the many people who consider themselves part of the Bruin family – our students, alumni, faculty, staff, donors and community partners – others remain
unaware of the important role UCLA plays in their lives, of the significant contributions Bruins make every day to the communities in which we live and work. Among those who need to hear the UCLA story are the very people who make critical decisions that affect our future. They hold the purse strings and make the policy decisions that help determine
whether UCLA will continue to play a pivotal role in our local communities and in the nation in
years to come. As competition for federal research funding increases, champions of higher education leave public office due to term limits, and local governments ask us to do more each year, effective communication between UCLA and government at all levels has never been more important.
That is where you come in.
Decision-makers at the local, state, and federal levels expect to hear from UCLA’s Government & Community Relations staff. They know it is our job to communicate with them. But they don’t always expect to hear from you – and when they do, they sit up and take notice. That is why your participation in Government & Community Relations’ Advocacy Programs – most notably, through participation in Bruin Caucus – is so important. When you knock on the door of a government agency or a legislator’s office, it opens. Because public officials know that your message comes from the heart – from a love for UCLA, a belief in public higher education, and a commitment to public service.
What Does Bruin Caucus Do?
Members of Bruin Caucus speak out for UCLA in many ways, right here in Los Angeles, in
Sacramento, and in the nation’s capital. You can tell the UCLA story, and advocate on behalf of the University, the UC system, and public higher education – helping to ensure a strong
partnership between your school and the government agencies, public officials, and community leaders who are so important to our long-term success.
Bruin Caucus member benefits:
