State Government Relations
The responsibility of UCLA’s State Government Relations (SGR) unit is to promote the mission of the University and to monitor state-related legislative activity. UCLA helps fulfill its mission of education, research, and service by actively engaging the state’s elected leadership. The many alumni, faculty, parents, campus leadership, and student volunteers who communicate with these elected officials often travel to Sacramento from throughout Los Angeles County to help advocate on UCLA’s behalf.
State support comprises an indispensable part of UCLA’s core operating budget, and it allows the University to continue to be a world class research institution. UCLA’s SGR staff monitors and collaborates with over 35 elected state officials across Los Angeles County. Because term limits bring new elected officials to Sacramento every session, educating legislators regarding the impact of their funding decisions on UCLA’s future is more important than ever.
