The Day of Service is a great opportunity for community involvement, and a way to engage and connect local resources and assets-both human and organizational-from schools, businesses, neighborhood councils, community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, City departments, the offices of public officials, and parent and youth groups.
Since the first Day of Service four years ago, the City of Los Angeles and its community members have worked hand in hand to rehabilitate neglected homes of senior citizens, create art in local parks, and plant gardens throughout the City. Church groups, community organizations, office workers, and school children have participated in numerous service projects that benefited hundreds of non-profits and their local neighborhoods. Whether it's planting trees, painting murals, cleaning streets or volunteering in retirement homes, anyone can participate in Day of Service as long as they are willing to give their time.
