New President and
CEO of Los Angeles Urban League Visits UCLA

The Community and Local Government Relations Unit hosted
a Campus Visit on February 22, 2006 for alumnus Blair Taylor, MBA ’90,
the new CEO and President of the Los Angeles Urban League, replacing longtime
civic leader John Mack. Mr. Taylor had the opportunity to meet with Chancellor
Carnesale, Dean Judy Olian of the Anderson School and the Community Based
Learning program. He also had the opportunity to join a luncheon with
faculty and staff of the Bunche Center for African American Studies. Mr.
Taylor’s visit proved to be productive and promising for future
endeavors between the Urban League and UCLA.
The mission of the Urban League is to improve and enrich the lives of
African Americans and other minorities in urban areas. The organization
fulfills this mission by providing a host of social services in education,
economic development, youth programs, and public policy. Recently, UCLA
faculty and staff played a vital role in producing the highly received
The State of Black Los Angeles Report put out jointly between the Urban
League and the United Way. After his first formal visit to campus, Mr.
Taylor was encouraged by future prospects to continue to work with UCLA
to address civic and community issues facing Los Angeles residents and
communities.
