Center for Community College Partnerships
December 20, 2006
In a recent discussion with Assistant Director Santiago Bernal , Local Government and Community Relations learned more about the Center for Community College Partnerships (CCCP). The CCCP is a collaboration between UCLA and California community colleges.
By working closely with UCLA's Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Community College Transfer Recruitment staff, as well as community college administrators, faculty and staff, the Center for Community College Partnerships has created academic support programs for underrepresented students. One program that has increased the diversity of UCLA's transfer admit pool is the Summer Transfer Program (STP). STP is a 6 day residential program that specifically prepares prospective transfer students with skills to complete coursework and assist them with the application process. Another program called the Community College Transfer Initiative trains UCLA students to serve as peer counselors who regularly work with a cohort of 20-25 community college students during the academic year. These peer counselors develop a pool of future students for four-year higher education institutions by discussing academic and personal preparation. The CCCP is an excellent example of how UCLA is targeting the transfer student population to increase UCLA diversity.
