An Angel's Flight at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion
The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion played host to UCLA on February 27, filled by over 400 UCLA downtown alumni and supporters including Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky. Los Angeles Councilmember Jack Weiss, also an alumnus, introduced Chancellor Norman Abrams, whose comical and touching remarks about UCLA and its presence in Downtown paved the way for an incredible presentation by Bill Jepson, the Director of the UCLA Urban Simulation Laboratory. Jepson took the audience on a virtual tour of Downtown Los Angeles via “Angel's Flight”, a program created to help area businesses in recreating and exploring various regions throughout Los Angeles County with respect to issues including transportation and urbanization.
The evening was also an opportunity to unveil new heights for the downtown community, including the reorganized UCLA Downtown alumni group, which co-hosted the evening. The Chair, Patrick Dennis, spoke of the club's recent success in bringing together the region to increase the visibility of the University in Downtown through community programs and mentoring new graduates. Also of note is the re-building of the Downtown Los Angeles Bruin Professionals group, whose launch party will be on March 14.
