Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board Member Monica Garcia's UCLA Visit
On June 11, 2007, LAUSD Board Member Monica Garcia visited the University of California , Los Angeles . Ms. Garcia met with faculty and staff from the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies (GSEIS) to be briefed on issues important to School District 2. During her briefing, Board Member Garcia learned more about English language learners, teacher training and educational leadership from Kris Gutierrez , professor of education, Eloise Lopez Metcalfe , director, Teacher Education Program, Nancy Parachini, director, Principal Leadership Institute, and Jeannie Oakes, director, Institute for Democracy, Education & Access. Also discussed during her visit were the future partnerships that could improve the English learning, teacher training and leadership at the K-12 public schools within her District.
After the briefing meeting with GSEIS faculty and staff, Garcia was given a private tour of SEEDS University Elementary School (UES) by Interim Principal Kent Lewis. The two also had a chance to talk about UES's best practices at the end of the tour.
