Chancellor Block Visits Downtown Los Angleles, Honors Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke
Joined by over 200 Bruin alumni and supporters at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, UCLA Chancellor Gene Block honored Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne B. Burke with the “UCLA Local Legislator of the Year” award on Monday, October 29, 2007. The award is presented to local legislators who have shown exemplary leadership to Los Angeles , one of many symbols of her distinguished career of over 30 years of public service.
Enthusiastically introduced by Los Angeles City Councilmembers Ed Reyes, Wendy Greuel and Jan Perry, Block warmly greeted the downtown Los Angeles community, outlining his vision and mission to continue the Bruin standard of excellence and growth, and sharing his excitement with his new post. Earlier, Block spent the day meeting with Los Angeles County Supervisors and City Councilmembers and the downtown community to hear more about UCLA's continuing role as a vital component to the Los Angeles community.
Having just started as UCLA's Chancellor in August 2007, this was one of Block's first opportunities to address downtown Bruins and provide a first-hand look into his aspirations for the coming years.
