On Wednesday, March 18, 2009, a diverse group of Southern California-based corporate leaders traveled to Sacramento with UCLA officials to discuss with legislators the economic impact that UCLA and the University of California has on their business as well as California as a whole.
The delegation was lead by Mr. Richard S. Ziman, Chairman of the American Value Partners, Inc. Other delegates included: Mr. Peter Guber, Chairman of Mandalay Pictures, Ms. Fran Inman, Chair of the Board of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Mary Leslie, President of the Los Angeles Business Council, and Assemblymember Ted Weggeland (Ret.), Senior Vice President of Entrepreneur Corporate Group.
UCLA staff included: Dr. Kathryn A. Atchison, Vice Provost of Intellectual Property Industry Sponsored Research to speak on UCLA's successful commercialization of faculty-developed technologies, and Ms. Tracie Christensen, Associate Vice Chancellor of Development to discuss campus fundraising efforts.
The delegation was well received my members of the legislature, and they seemed to understand the value in the investment that the University of California brings the state.
