UCLA Hosts Los Angeles City Council 5th District Debate

Watched live by myriad faculty, staff, students, and community members, Los Angeles City Council 5th District candidates Paul Koretz and David T. Vahedi participated in a lively debate in UCLA's Kerckhoff Hall Charles E. Young Grand Salon on Monday, April 20, 2009. The debate was sponsored by UCLA, law firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, and KABC-TV.

Moderated by Adrienne Alpert, reporter for KABC-TV, the forum featured the top two vote-getters in the March 3 primary election. Candidates answered questions surrounding local and regional issues including traffic congestion, public safety, health and hospital services, and environmental sustainability.

The general election is on May 19, 2009, when the top vote-getter will be succeed Councilmember Jack Weiss in the 5th District, which covers neighborhoods including Bel Air, Carthay, Century City , Encino, Fairfax , Sherman Oaks, Westwood, and UCLA.

The debate will air on KABC-TV on Sunday, May 3, at 11:00 a.m.
