Special Election
The Governor had campaigned statewide in support for a reform agenda of four measures: Proposition 74, teacher tenure; Proposition 75, union dues; Proposition 76, state budget and spending limits; and Proposition 77, redistricting.
Voters rejected these and other measures, including Proposition 73, parental notification for abortion on a minor; Proposition 78, prescription drug discounts (industry-sponsored); Proposition 79, prescription drug discounts (consumer/labor union-sponsored); and Proposition 80, electricity regulation.
The UC Regents did not take a position on any of the measures, as the University is not directly affected by any of the initiatives. However, there will be continued speculation about how the 2006-07 state budget will be impacted by rejection of Proposition 75 on state budget spending and school funding.
